Psychiatric and Mental Health Educational Program

In November 2016, Fakeeh College for Medical Sciences celebrated the international mental health day in collaboration with DSFH and Jeddah Psychiatric Hospital. A series of educational lectures were presented in collaboration and coordination with the continuous education department in the hospital for a wide range of family caregivers of mental ill relatives. Master students presented a wide range of related important topics in the mental health field such as family caregivers roles in caring for people suffering from ill mental health such as depression, schizophrenia, substance use problems, attention hyperactivity deficit management and up-to-date treatment strategies. Students and continuous education department prepared various educational leaflets which were distributed to family caregivers to take home message about their caring roles.

In December 2016, a group of the psychiatric and mental health master students presented educational lectures for patients who visited the primary health center in Otebeah Area. The topic was directed toward the habit of nicotine and smoking addiction and its risks to physical and social life both for the individual and the community. After that, students presented the management techniques to start smoking cessation. Following this, master students directed audiences to the smoking cessation clinic in Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital and provided some cases on the success of this clinic. Students handles many questions from the audience and provided a full explanation for every question.

In the same week, a group of the females master psychiatric and mental health students delivered another essential session for family relatives in the Teejane Center for early intervention. The presentation included attention hyperactivity deficit disorder and psychological aspect of this disorder. The students were mainly concentrated on the signs and symptoms associated with this mental disorder and how can family interact effectively with their ill relative as well as they highlighted the importance of family relative role in management plan.
